All-on-4 Dental Implants: Are You a Candidate?

All on 4 Dental ImplantsIf you are thinking about getting dentures or have dentures that are uncomfortable, don’t fit properly or are in need of repair, then you are a potential candidate for All-on-4 Dental Implants.

Anyone in reasonably good health is a good candidate. There are some conditions that could affect the outcome of the placement of All-on-4s, such as:

  • gum disease
  • uncontrolled diabetes
  • smoking
  • cancer
  • alcoholism
  • radiation to the jaw
  • the amount of bone loss in the jaw

All-on-4s eliminate the need for the hard plate that come with traditional dentures

Health, not age, is a factor in determining if someone is a candidate for Dental Implants. The Guinness Book of World records recorded a 100-year-old patient in Palm Harbor as being the oldest patient in the world to have Dental Implants placed.

An initial assessment can determine if you are a candidate for All-on-4 Dental Implants.

How Do All-on-4 Dental Implants Work?

All-on-4 Dental Implants are a simple solution to the problem of replacing missing teeth. All-on-4s are dentures that are held in place with 4 Dental Implants to hold the top dental arch in place, and 4 Dental Implants to hold the bottom dental arch in place.

Thanks to their simple design, All-on-4s eliminate the need for a thick plate on the upper denture, which often interfere with speech, taste and the ability to differentiate between hot and cold foods.

All-on-4 Dentures fit onto the Dental Implants and can only be removed by your dentist. They require only the same care that is used for natural teeth. That means no extra nightly care, no need for teeth-in-a glass, no need for pastes or special denture cleaners.

What are the Advantages of All-on-4 Dental Implants?

Each Dental Implant stimulates bone growth around the Implant

The increased ability to chew, taste, speak and smile are the obvious advantages of All-on-4s, but there are other benefits as well.

When a tooth is lost, the bone in the jaw surrounding the tooth is lost. With each lost tooth, more bone is lost. This type of bone loss leads to the bone structure around the face and jaw to appear sunken or collapsed.

Dental Implants work through the process of osseointegration, which actually stimulates bone growth around each implant to hold it in place. So, instead of the continual loss of bone that accompanies tooth loss, bone growth is stimulated when the implant is placed.

It takes a few weeks for osseointegration to be complete, but with All-on-4 Dental Implants you don’t have to be without teeth for a single day. Temporary All-on-4s can be placed until healing is complete and permanent All-on-4s can be put into place.
